Rescue Me ID: 17-10-16-00327Bear (male)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bear is a sweet boy who was a stray taken in by a Good Samaritan a few months ago. He's between 1-2 YO and is 39 lbs. She has been working with him to get him ready for his forever home. His personality has a great combination of playful, friendly, submissive, quiet, affectionate, energetic, and laid back. He has a gentle soul and can be independent, but yet, your best pal. He can be somewhat active, but if he's allowed to run, he's very active. Bear is being fostered in a home with other dogs of many sizes and he's either playful and friendly with them or ignores them. So far, he's been playful with cats in a controlled ... (Read More)environment, but we'll be testing him on this more officially soon. He gets along well with children, but has a tendency to get excited and jump up on them so he's getting instruction on not to do that. He has been known to get out from under fences not reinforced or those that are too short. A four foot fence properly grounded would be fine and it must be sturdy since he's not used to being in a fence, but he's learning quickly that this can be a fun place. He loves car rides and is calm and quiet. He loves to either play or just hang out; he's happy no matter what he's doing. Bear is house trained and leash trained, but at times he'll sit down when walking. He's crate trained, but is not really fond of going into one. He's working in these areas and making remarkable progress each day. Bear is a chewer and will need appropriate toys. He loves ropes toys which distracts him from chewing. While he doesn't have separation anxiety, per say, when adopted to a forever home, we suggest he be crated to start with to minimize chewing. It's obvious he was shown no attention in his previous life, and is now learning how to be a companion. He has tremendous potential and just loves to cuddle. Bear would do best in a home with experienced dog owners who are active with canine companions he can run and play with at his energy level. (Less)

Animal ID: Babs  (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Babs is a sweet, 2 YO, 40 lb dog who came to PAWS as one of 12 dogs from an older owner who was no longer able to care for her. It seems she was bullied by the other dogs so she hangs back from people and other animals until she gets to know them. She's an inside/outside dog who wants to please, but is a bit nervous right now. She'll come to you, but is cautious. Once she knows you're going to be good to her, she just melts. She has had no previous training, but is doing wonderfully in foster care with leash training on a harness. As far as house training, Babs will need to be given plenty of opportunities to potty outside in the ... (Read More)beginning until she learns the routine of her new family. We recommend Babs go to a home that's more quiet and calm with older children. She needs someone or a family who can help build up her confidence with gentle care. She doesn't like yelling, rambunctious activity, or loud noises and will cower until you reassure her everything is OK. With a little encouragement, continued training, and lots of love, Babs will blossom into an even more wonderful dog than she is now. (Less)

Animal ID: Buddy  (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Buddy is an 9 mos old, 60 lb, sweet, smart, and energetic boy! He also has some Blue Tick Hound in him. He came to PAWS when his owner became disabled and was unable to continue caring for him. As a young pup, Buddy survived Parvo through his owner's tireless care. Two months ago he developed Entropion, a condition in which a portion of the eyelid is inverted or folded inwards. This can cause an eyelash or hair to irritate and scratch the surface of the eye, leading to corneal ulceration or perforation. Fortunately, through a fundraiser, Buddy was able to receive surgery to correct the condition and he's made a full recovery. He's ... (Read More)currently working on leash training (he still pulls at times), but is eager to please, learn, and is treat driven. Buddy has been an inside dog since he was a pup and should continue to be inside only and not put out in a kennel or run. His favorite thing is to cuddle up on the sofa with you after a long walk, hike, or jog. Give him a vigorous walk or game of fetch a couple of times a day, plus a chance to run in a safely fenced area (at least six feet tall) a couple times a week and he'll be satisfied. Buddy was housetrained with his former owner, but will need to revisit this with his new family. He chews when he's bored so keep cow hooves or deer antlers around when he's not exercising. With maturity and training, he'll become a calm and quiet dog. We recommend experienced dog owners as first-time or timid dog owners may find him to be more than a handful. Because of his size, it is recommended Buddy be supervised around young children. He's going to love being trained and will need lots of exercise. Buddy will make a great dog for an individual or family who have an active lifestyle. If you're looking for a strong, confident dog who encompasses gentleness and a sense of humor, Buddy is the dog for you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-20-00240Delilah (female)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Delilah is a sweet 1 1/2 YO girl came to PAWS as an owner surrender. Her personality and behavior can best be described as playful, vocal, friendly, independent, affectionate, and laid back. She is very good at listening to basic commands and is always excited to see you and give you lots of love. Delilah is an active girl and only somewhat vocal. When she's with her canine foster buddies, she love to play and run with them and is very friendly towards them. It is unknown how she is with cats as she hasn't been around them. When riding in a car, she is calm and quiet. Delilah is being fostered in a home with two small boys, ages 3 ... (Read More)and 4 and she's very friendly towards them. Because of her size and energy, she could knock a small child over out of excitement so it would be recommended she be supervised around small children. Delilah gets very excited (high energy) to see people and other dogs, but calms down shortly afterwards. She loves to wrestle and go for long walks, but most of all, she enjoys being loved on. She is housebroken and walks nicely on a leash. Delilah uses a crate, but doesn't really like it. Her foster says she is just a lovable goofball who likes to spend her time horsing around with other dogs. Since she's been in foster, she's improved with her leash training and thriving with basic commands. Delilah would do best with an individual or family who are experienced dog owners and who have canine companions or give her lots of opportunities to interact with other dogs. She is well suited to active homes and lifestyles where she'll be living inside as a member of the family and enjoying the same comforts they do, while given plenty of exercise in a fenced yard, dog park, or hikes/walks. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-27-00374Ash (male)

Pointer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ash is a super sweet boy came to PAWS as an owner surrender. His personality and behavior can best be described as playful, vocal, friendly, independent, affectionate, and laid back. He loves to play with people and other dogs and is very good at taking direction. Because he's a Pointer mix, he's an active dog, but not overly vocal. An excellent watchdog, Ash is protective of his property and will sound the alarm at anything out of the ordinary, but is not a nuisance barker. When he's playing with his canine foster buddies, he's playful and friendly. He's had limited contact with cats through a fence and just barks at them, so it's ... (Read More)unknown how he would interact with them. When riding in a car, he is calm and quiet. Ash is being fostered in a home with two small boys, ages 3 and 4 and he's very friendly towards them. Because of his size and energy, he could knock a small child over out of excitement so it would be recommended he be supervised around small children. Ash loves to play fetch and tug-of-war, enjoys long walks, and playing with kids. He's housebroken and walks nicely on a leash. Ash uses a crate, but doesn't really like it. He has really improved with his leash training and picking up commands quickly since being in foster. We recommend Ash go to a family who are experienced dog owners strong enough to handle a dog this size. Energetic and fun-loving, Ash is well suited to active homes and lifestyles where he'll be living inside as a member of the family and enjoying the same comforts they do. He'll need plenty of exercise to help channel his active body and mind into constructive pursuits rather than the destruction that can be brought on by a bored Pointer. We recommend consistent, ongoing reinforcement of 'training', and an hour or two a day of play, walks, or other exercise - the more active the better. He just wants to please and is looking for someone to connect with and love on! When all these things are in place, Ash will be a loyal and true friend for many happy years. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-25-00480Wiggles (female)

Pit Bull    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Wiggles is a beautiful (inside and out), Blue Pit girl who came to PAWS as a surrender when her owner had to move. She was about to give birth but, unfortunately, all her puppies passed from an undetermined medical condition and no pre-natal care, so she was very sad for a while. However, with lots of love from her foster family, she has blossomed once again into a great dog! Her personality is playful, friendly, independent, affectionate, and energetic. She has never displayed any signs of aggression towards people or animals. She wants nothing more than to be loved on and love on someone. Wiggles loves to play, run, and go for walks, ... (Read More)but also loves to lay around and be a couch potato so she has the perfect mixture of both qualities. Wiggles seems really energetic at first, but she just gets excited to meet new people and will calm down just fine. She is somewhat active and her exercise needs are average so she would just need daily walks and play/run time with her people or canine companions. She is somewhat vocal, but not considered a nuisance barker. She lays around most of the day sleeping or chewing on her bones. Wiggles is being fostered with other dogs and is playful and friendly towards all of them. She is friendly with cats, but also ignores them. She has been around young toddlers and children and is wonderful with them. She has never knocked anyone over (although these things can happen accidentally) and plays very gently and age appropriately. She absolutely has the 'nanny' characteristics you look for in a dog. When traveling in a car, Wiggles is calm and quiet. She gets super excited for walks and is a great motivator! She loves to run around with you, likes to fetch toys, and really enjoys playing with other dogs who can challenge her in tug a war! She also likes to bring her blankets out and lay in the sun and catch some rays! She is house trained and loves her crate as she goes in on her own or on command and lies down very quietly and calmly. Wiggles' leash training is improving, but still pulls some and likes to lead the walk and go where she wants to go so her foster is continuing to work on that. Wiggles should live primarily indoors, and would do well with an active individual or family who have other canine companions or where she would have regular interactions with other dogs. She knows basic commands and aims to please. Wiggles is just a delight, and would be an amazing addition to any family! (Less)
