Finn was surrendered by his owner who kept him chained up outside because he didn't have time for him. He is a super dog at 40 lbs who loves all people, and gets along well with dogs and cats, but will chase cats playfully if they run. He's being fostered on a farm and never leaves the property. Finn will follow your car if you leave so he's kept in the house or on the porch if people come and go. He is crate trained, house trained, and will sleep in either his crate or on a bed. He loves to ride in a car. Upon intake Finn was treated with Doxycycline for the heartworms which was diagnosed as being 'low tier'. There were no ... (Read More)microfilia found in the bloodstream. He took Doxycycline for one month, was off one, and is currently on for one month. He's also on Advantix Multi as a preventive. He shows no signs or symptoms. No other known allergies or medical conditions Finn would do best with an active family and plenty of room to run around. We believe he would make a great agility dog. Sweet Penny come to PAWS as a stray one night. Volunteers were at the PAWS storage unit when she came cowering from around the corner looking for food and water. She was emaciated, anemic, in heat, and had scars and bruises on her legs and neck where it looked like she had been chained up for a while on a cement pad. We're not sure if she got loose or was dumped off, but PAWS took her in and nursed her back to health. Penny is loving, playful, friendly, independent, affectionate, and energetic! She is very strong and will knock you or your children down if you're not careful. In her utter joy and happiness, she wants to run between the legs ... (Read More)of people and animals and jumps up on people, but we're working to correct this behavior. Penny loves to run and play with other dogs, and has shown no aggression towards people or other animals. She is very energetic, and we believe since she was chained up for so long and is now free, in perfect health, and no longer so physically weak, that she wants to rejoice and run around every chance she gets! Penny barks if someone or something new comes into her line of sight, but will stop if instructed to do so and we're working with her to make her feel more comfortable in these situations. She is eager to learn and just wants to lick you, love you, and be loved on. If you throw something, she'll chase it, but hasn't learned to bring it back to you yet. She loves her chew toys and bones. Penny is working on house training, but will need more time, work, and a regular schedule from her new owners. She's not completely used to a crate, but PAWS has been slowly introducing her to it and allowing her to spend short periods of time in one each day. We're working on her leash training as she pulls a lot, but she's showing good signs of improvement each day. Penny would do best with experienced dog owners who are willing to work on developing good habits, and on house, crate, and leash training. She needs plenty of opportunities for exercise and running and would do best being paired with a canine companion of equal energy. Ash is a super sweet boy who came to PAWS as an owner surrender. He's very playful, friendly, independent, affectionate, and energetic. He's a quick learner, very good at taking direction, and picks up basic commands quickly. He enjoys taking long walks and loves to play fetch and tug-a-war. An excellent watchdog, Ash is protective of his property and will sound the alarm at anything out of the ordinary, but is not a nuisance barker. Ash is being fostered with other dogs ranging from small to large sizes. He plays well with and is friendly towards all of them. He is also living with two boys, 3 and 4 YO, and he loves playing with them. We ... (Read More)recommend supervision with younger children. When traveling in a car, he is calm and quiet. Ash is house and leash trained and will get in a crate, but doesn't really like it. He's not left alone much during the day and suffers no separation anxiety. We recommend potential adopters be experienced dog owners who are strong enough to handle a dog this size. Energetic and fun-loving, Ash is well suited to active homes and lifestyles where he'll be living inside as a member of the family and enjoying the same comforts they do. He'll need plenty of exercise to help channel his active body and mind into constructive pursuits rather than the destruction that can be brought on by a bored Pointer. We recommend consistent, ongoing reinforcement of 'training', and an hour or two a day of play, walks, or other exercise - the more active the better. Wiggles is a beautiful (inside and out), Blue Pit girl who came to PAWS as a surrender when her owner had to move. She was about to give birth but, unfortunately, all her puppies passed from an undetermined medical condition and no pre-natal care, so she was very sad for a while. However, with lots of love from her foster family, she has blossomed once again into a great dog! Her personality is playful, friendly, independent, affectionate, and energetic. She has never displayed any signs of aggression towards people or animals. She wants nothing more than to be loved on and love on someone. Wiggles loves to play, run, and go for walks. She ... (Read More)also loves to lay around and be a couch potato so she has the perfect mixture of both qualities. Wiggles seems really energetic at first, but she just gets excited to meet new people and will calm down quite a bit. She is somewhat active and her exercise needs are average so she would just need daily walks and play/run time with her people or canine companions. She is somewhat vocal, but not considered a nuisance barker. Wiggles is being fostered with other dogs ranging from small to large size and is playful and friendly towards all of them. She is friendly with cats, but also ignores them. Wiggles is also living with two boys, 3 and 4 YO, and is wonderful with them. She has never knocked anyone over (although these things can happen accidentally) and plays very gently and age appropriately. She absolutely has the 'nanny' characteristics you look for in a dog. Wiggles does well playing in her 20 x 40 kennel and does not want to jump or dig out. When traveling in a car, she is calm and quiet. She gets super excited for walks and is a great motivator! Wiggles loves to run around with you, likes to fetch toys, and really enjoys playing with other dogs who can challenge her in tug a war! She also likes to bring her blankets out and lay in the sun and catch some rays! Wiggles is house trained and will get in a crate, but doesn't really like it. She is leash trained, but still pulls a little and likes to lead the walk and go where she wants to go so her foster is continuing to work on that. She's not left alone much during the day and suffers no separation anxiety. Wiggles would do well with an active individual or family who have other canine companions or where she would have regular interactions with other dogs. She knows basic commands and aims to please. Scrappy is a friendly, affectionate, and loving little dog who needs a new home. She was surrendered to PAWS when her owner could no longer care for her. She's 8-10 years old, independent, quiet, laid back, is not demanding, and loves to snuggle. Scrappy is probably best described as a 'couch potato'. She has behaved well with older children, but has not been tested around younger ones. She's being fostered with four other dogs and basically just ignores them. She is low key, except around cats, but has gotten much better about chasing them. When riding in a car, Scrappy is very calm and quiet. Scrappy is housetrained, crate trained, but ... (Read More)hasn't been on a leash in a while as the foster has a backyard she potties and exercises in. At night, she'll sleep on her doggie bed or sometimes in a crate which is left open. On occasion, she's left alone for up to eight hours and there is no sign of separation anxiety and no incidences of destruction. Her only bad habit is jumping on chairs or kitchen tables if chairs aren't pushed in. Because she is prone to overeating, she is on a Satiety diet for dogs. This is a high fiber, high protein diet that has been formulated to promote weight loss in overweight adult dogs as part of a veterinary-supervised weight reduction program. She has a congenital 5/6 heart murmur, but has not displayed symptoms yet. These dogs can live many years with a heart murmur as the disease is slow in progressing and can be treated with medications if need be. Scrappy is not taking any medications for this condition. She just had a complete dental in which her teeth were cleaned and several pulled so she's doing great on that front. Scrappy would do fine as an only dog in a family where someone is home most of the time or where she has canine companions if her 'person' is not home. PAWS rescued Baxter from the Rutherford County, NC Animal Control Facility before he was due to be put down. He is a very sweet, friendly, affectionate boy who is also a big couch potato, laid back, and just likes to chill. Baxter is shy and quiet, but very fearful and frightened of thunderstorms of which a Thunder Shirt has helped. His activity level is moderate and he's not much of a barker. He loves to play with his bones and toys. When interacting with his foster canine siblings, he's playful, loving, and friendly, but also submissive and would get along with any dog. He shows interest in cats, but no aggressiveness. Though he hasn't ... (Read More)been tested with children, we feel he will be fine. He likes riding in a car and is quiet. Baxter is housebroken, crate trained (he likes the crate and goes in easily), and is doing very well on leash training, though he does pull a little. He usually sleeps in a crate or dog bed by the foster's bed. He's not left alone very much during the day and if so, doesn't experience separation anxiety. Baxter has learned the command 'Sit', and has come out of his shyness dramatically since being out of the pound and into a home environment. Baxter was heart worm positive when PAWS took him in a while back, but he's completed all the rounds of the slow treatment, and just needs the final test to confirm all the heart worms have been eradicated. We recommend Baxter be adopted by an experienced dog owner. He can be an only dog or with canine companions. Baxter would also do well with an older couple as he loves just laying around the house chewing on toys and sleeping. Not too much excites this big love bug! Cowgirl is a sweet girl who came to PAWS after we rescued her from the Rutherford County, NC Animal Control Facility where she was housed for five weeks as a stray. She is housebroken, walks well on a leash, knows how to sit on command, and will kennel up on command. She is also crate trained and sleeps quietly all night in her crate. She loves her person and wants to be with them. She enjoys going places, riding in the car, going for walks, playing fetch, and lying around chewing on her bones and toys. Cowgirl gets along with the foster's male dogs, but has had issues with female dogs. She shows interest in cats, so she would need ... (Read More)to be trained with them. She is untested with children, but her foster feels she would be fine with older children. With little ones she might tend to 'herd' them and knock them over unintentionally due to her size and energy level. Because Cowgirl is a Red Heeler mix, she would do best with an experienced dog owner who is a strong leader (because she is smarter than most people), is active, and has a big fenced-in yard for her to exercise, or offers her plenty of opportunities to run, hike, or other stimulating activities.
